Jill Taylor, My Stroke of Insight

Yesterday I finished the book written by Dr. Jill Taylor, My Stroke of Insight.  It is a very insightful book into the workings of both of the hemispheres of our brain. She explains how both sides of the brain work independently as well as in conjunction with each other.

Dr. Taylor was actually a Harvard graduate working as a brain research scientist at the time of her own stroke in 1987. She is very famous and easy to find on the internet. Besides continuing to work in her endeavored field, she is an acclaimed author and speaker.
She is a marvelous advocate for awareness of stroke and other forms of brain trauma.
Here is a video of her speaking about her stroke here

Dr. Taylor tells of how her full recovery took eight years. This is inspiring to me as I am now in my third year of my own stroke. She also  talks about the choices that we all make in life and offers tips on how to access both sides of our brain at will.

It actually took me a while before I got around to reading her book because of a bias that I had from watching her video. You see in her lectures she mentions a feeling of Nirvana and Euphoria that she experienced during her stroke.
My hemorrhagic stroke was in the right (opposite) hemisphere as Dr. Taylor's. My experiences were not at all like the one's that she experienced.

Instead of Nirvana, Euphoria and Bliss, my stroke began with numbness, anxiety and extreme headaches, and it went downhill quickly from there.

Anyway, I am fortunate to have gotten over my unfounded bias and my life has been enriched by the reading of her book. I would recommend this book to anyone who would like to learn how to control the thoughts of your brain and enrich their life.

I am honored to add her on my blog and I will soon add her to my Recommended Resources on my site at StrokesSuck.com

You could purchase the book on Amazon .or just go to your local public library. Here is a link that will take you there.
