Recommendation To Blood Banks.. Help Save Lives
I was reviewing the book that I am writing about my stroke, titled "Strokes Suck, but", when in the first chapter I write about a suggestion that I attempted to pass on to the San Diego Blood Bank, to no avail.
I am going to copy the excerpt from my book here and perhaps this may be a better avenue to present this suggestion.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I did have high blood pressure though. I was actually turned down from donating blood the last few times that I attempted to donate because of elevated blood pressure readings. That should have served as a wake up clue to me. Come to think of it, I never even received any warning from the blood bank about the obvious dangers of HBP.
I realize that their job is to collect blood and not to diagnose problems. Because HBP is a leading cause of many medical problems including the number one cause of stroke, I believe that they could provide a valuable life saving service if they could discretely hand the donor a small card listing the importance of keeping your blood pressure under control. Along with listing some of the possible ramifications if you don't.
Personally, I was ignorant or perhaps oblivious to the dangers. A simple service like this could potentially save a lot of lives and prevent many ailments from occuring including stroke. It may or may not have motivated me to seek treatment had I known about the risks."
