Welcome To Strokes Suck Academy

Strokes Suck  has been mine and many others main source of continuing education in this past year.
For some it might be their final step before graduation into the work world,
Others may be entering as freshmen and our completely overwhelmed.
Our classes and courses are taught by the most experienced teachers in their fields of endeavor.
We offer courses for beginners as well advanced degrees.

Like most universities tuition can be very costly but in the long run it is worth it's weight in gold.
Tuition is paid up front in the form of your stroke.
Payments are also required every day just by living as a stroke survivor.

Some universities teach business, engineering, medicine, law and other disciplines.
We specialize is the ABC'S.
Actually the ABCD'S. The ABCD'S of stroke recovery,
We begin with the basics simply because we are all starting over in our new life.
In most cases we need to re-learn the basics all over again.
Things like walking, talking, dressing and feeding ourselves. Pretty darn basic stuff indeed.

Now just like in real life, not everyone chooses to go to college .
Many people can create enormous success attending  the old "school of hard knocks".
There is certainly nothing wrong with that approach. In fact I studied there for three years myself.

I attended the school of hard knocks for 54 years before me stroke as well.
Experience has been a fantastic teacher in those three years and the years prior.
I was fortunate to be able to read and to get around on my own so I became self taught.
I even wrote a book on my experiences. It is a book about my stroke from my perspective.
I titled the book after our website "Strokes Suck, But..." as in But there are things you can do...
After I finished in the end of 2009, I never actually had it published.
There are a few reasons why however, I haven't abandoned the project completely

I discovered that it is very costly to edit and publish a book.
Well it is when you are on a low fixed income.
I also discovered that not only am I not any where close to being original with this idea,
but that there really isn't a big market for another book about one persons stroke.
Making money was not the object but having enough money to be able to do it is certainly a factor.
I have tremendous respect for people like Scott Tatro who have managed to pull it off.

This past year has been my other "excuse" for not finishing my book.
You see, this is when I enrolled in Strokes Suck  Academy or was that University?
I guess the name really isn't that important, it's the learning that you receive.

At SSU, I learned to view the entire course curriculum and my eyes have been opened.
I thought that I knew what it was like to be a stroke survivor. I did but it was all from my perspective.
I mean I did write a book on the subject right? What more could I learn?
As I stated, my eyes were opened by both the enormity and complexity of the subject.
Then there is the diversity. Not only does a first stroke happen every 3 seconds in the world,
but it happens to people of all ages, races and gender. Even children in the womb suffer strokes.

Boy, has this year been an enriching learning experience for me.
Not only am I just beginning upon my journey towards my "formal" education,
but my social life has reappeared,  meeting the most amazing students from all over the world.

The teachers are students and the students are teachers.
I am now writing my new book that I will publish called the ABCD'S Of Stroke Recovery.
Or should that be the ABCDE or even EFG?
I'm not quite sure. All I know is that I'm going to stay in school for as long as I continue learning.
Besides I already paid my tuition in advance and I am making my daily payments anyway, why not?

Bob, I think we need T-shirts and sweat shirts with SSU on them....just like regular college sweat shirts. Seriously! I would wear mine with great pride. They would also be a great topic of conversation for all of us to get the word out about stroke survival.

    I love today's blog!
